	There were no knockdowns and neither fighter was in serious trouble at any time. Montgomery looked like a stand-up fighter in the opening round when he stood off and jabbed Johnny, who started right in to force the fight. As early as the second round, Johnny was warned to keep his punches up. Referee Tommy Sullivan took the third round away from Greco for a low blow, and then took the fourth away from Montgomery for the same offense. The fifth was the most torrid round of the fight. Johnny had the Bobcat backed up in a corner most of the time, but the Philadelphian ripped in both hands in the in-fighting and gave almost as good as he received. Montgomery started to come on in the sixth. He opened a cut on the bridge of Greco’s nose and then landed the best punch of the fight, a long right hand to the chin that took some of the steam out of Greco. He also took the seventh when he opened a cut over Johnny’s eye and it began to look as if there might be an upset. But Greco rallied in the last two heats to pull out the win.
