In the final round Saito rushed Medel into the ropes with a left and right attack but the cool-headed Mexican fought his way out after weathering another body attack. *World bantamweight champion Eder Jofre's manager, Abraham Katzenelson, accepted Saito's challenge for a title defense, provided he got past Medel. However, even in spite of the fact that Saito lost, there would have been no title opportunity as Jofre was in Japan to defend his title against Fighting Harada and lost the title 5 days later.
