			In 2005 a 10 round unanimous decision win over former WBC Heavyweight Champion Oliver McCall was changed to a no contest after Gomez tested positive for cocaine. Since his move to the United States and into the heavyweight division, Gomez had gone from being an active Cruiserweight World Champion to fighting sporadically and clearly no longer living the life of a fighter. It took him 8 years to earn a title fight versus WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko, but by the time the shot came, he had been too consistently inactive and was stopped in a one sided fight in 9 rounds.
