	Vladimir Virchis lost the right to fight for the WBC championship belt. And we were already dreaming! Now Virchis is going to beat Gomez, then Vitali Klitschko beats Sam Peter, and two Ukrainians are going to fight for the title! Too bad... Let's hope that at least in Klitschko's fight against the Nigerian on October 11 everything works out.

	As for Virchis, although it is unpleasant to admit it, there is some justice in the outcome of Saturday's clash in Hamburg. It's probably a matter of motivation. Virchis, 35, has been thinking about quitting boxing for a long time. He, they say, has a good business, he likes to party. In general, Vladimir fully imagines his life without exhausting training, gloves and a ring. I remember talking with him last summer, when it was not yet clear with whom and for what the Ukrainian would box. Virchis, nicknamed "The Hunter", was more than calm about the prospect of boxing for the world title. He even said that a high fee could be a more significant motivation for him. "Of course, the world championship belt is a desirable trophy for me, as well as for any other boxer," Vladimir reasoned. "But when I came to professional boxing, to be honest, I thought, just "stay in there" for some time. But then eventually I accomplished quite a lot, even those trophies that I didn't count on." Virchis, indeed, was the WBC CIS and Slavic Countries Champion, the IBC, IBF, WBO and WBA Intercontinental Champion, EBU European Champion...

	The Cuban Juan Carlos Gomez (also 35), however, did not want to be a boxer at all. "I always dreamed of becoming a baseball player," recalls the now mandatory contender for the WBC title. "But in Cuba, your dreams mean little. Everyone decided for me, I didn’t choose boxing, but he chose me." True, when Gomez decided not to return to the Liberty Island from Germany (escaped, to be precise), he hardly regretted (not) his choice. After all, boxing in Europe and worldwide is rated much higher than the "American lapta". The appetite, as well as to Virchis, came to the Cuban during the meal. And it has not disappeared, as we see, so far. For the sake of a new dream of becoming world heavyweight champion, Gomez left the cruiserweight division, where he held the WBC title. And in order to beat Virchis, he even gained quite unusual for himself 106 kg.

	Unfortunately for us, this had little effect on the Cuban's speed. He was faster both on his feet and in throwing punches. Virchis went forward, but could not find a comfortable distance to fire his attacks at the southpaw. And over and over again he walked into stinging shots from Gomez. In the fourth round, a left hook counterpunch from the Cuban sent Vladimir to the canvas. He quickly jumped up, but the count was started - a knockdown. The further things went towards the end of the fight, the clearer it became: our "Hunter's" only hope was a knockout. He caught him nicely a couple of times, but was unable to build on his success. He simply didn't have the strength in him anymore. And at the very end, as it seemed, nor the desire to give it all and risk everything. Ring announcer has not yet announced the name of the winner, and Virchis has already begun to applaud the opponent. It's honorable, as a true man. The judges unanimously gave the victory to Gomez - 117:110, 117:109, 115:111.

	The defeat from Gomez was only the second for Virchis in his career. The first was in 2006 from Ruslan Chagaev (also southpaw, now the WBA champion). "We knew each other well. Neither he wanted to fight me, nor I him," says Virchis about that defeat. I guess for the same reason Virchis was not particularly eager to fight Klitschko.
