Buchanan scored the only knockdown of the fight when he decked Otero with a solid right hook late in the 1st round, although Otero jumped up at the count of two, as the round ended. The victory came after the 5th round when Otero's manager, Richard Riesgo, refused to allow his fighter to go out for the 6th round.
