	Laszlo Papp, European middleweight champion faced US veteran Charley Cotton in a 10- rounder. Cotton had made his debut in 1948, the year young Papp bursted on the amateur scene in the London Olympics with the first of his three Olympic medals. In one of these flurries he was suddenly countered by a left from southpaw Papp. Cotton didn't go down but was counted out on his feet.
