"Former world welterweight champion Luis Rodriguez, 151 1/4, of Miami, Fla., banged a stream of left jabs off the face of middleweight Ferd Hernandez, 160, Las Vegas, last night for a unanimous 10 round decision. Rodriguez, a Cuban and currently rated the world's top welterweight contender, opened a cut on Hernandez' right eyelid in the 8th round. Rodriguez proved to be quicker with a probing left jab to the body and stiff lefts to the head in the battle between counter-punchers. There were no knockdowns." -United Press International
