	Marty Kizer started boxing in 1978 under the tutelage of Charles Murphy on the Mayor Hatcher Youth Foundation Boxing Club in Gary, Indiana. He won ~~his first~~ state championship in the 95 lb sub-novice division in the 1979 Indiana AAU/Junior Olympics in only his second fight. A year later he was fighting in the Novice division in the 1980 Chicago Golden Gloves finals where he lost a ~~decision to Kevin Toomey in the light Flyweight division after stopping his semifinal opponent. Two years later~~ in the ~~1981~~ Chicago Golden Gloves ~~finals, under coach [[John Labroi]] in the Calumet Township Trustee Boxing Club in Gary, he lost a decision to [[Roosevelt McCullum]]~~. ~~The same year he progressed to the finals of the Chicago CYO tournament with undoubtedly the best showing of his career, a defeat of the highly regarded [[Jeff Silva]] in the semi~~-~~finals. After joining the~~ navy in ~~1983, he made the~~ 1984 all navy boxing team under legendary coaches Richard Pettigrew and [[John Hunter]]. Pettigrew, the all navy heavyweight champion in 1960, 1961, 1962, and 1964 as well as the heavyweight alternate in the 1964 Olympics trained many champions including Olympian, [[Duane Bobick]]. Marty's very first fight on the all-navy team was against the Army team at Ft Bragg where he lost a close decision to future Olympic Gold Medalist, [[Kennedy McKinney]] in an action packed, toe to toe battle. His next fight was at the Eastern Sports Festival Trials where he won is first fight on a first round stoppage, but lost the semifinal bout. After a season competing on a national level against top competition, including the inaugural DC Mayor's Cup Tournament, he represented the navy at the all-military championships losing the semifinal bout against Marine, Zrinnell Webster. He made the 1985 team and it was more of the same including a semifinal appearance in the Ohio State Fair. After defeating the Marine in the all-service semifinals, he lost to McKinney again in the 1985 all military finals. His last two amateur bouts were in the 1985 ~~USA ABF national tournament. Kizer is now a professional vocalist/worship leader/recording artist in Florida~~.
