	"Looking back on my amateur career it was very average in terms of wins, I won about 38 out of about 57 fights. I also moved around clubs a lot which was hard as I always had to settle in. I had my first fight at the age of 11 and won via stoppage, I also won boxer of the night so I ended up going home with 2 trophies. I was buzzing to get back into the ring after that! I was only at Welwyn Garden City ABC for about 6/7 months and I entered the ABA’s and won it! That was a great memory for me but along that with also come bad memories, I can remember going through a spell of loosing about 7 fights and my dad just kept saying to me don’t give up, stick to it and come back better and that’s exactly what I did. Overall I enjoyed my amateur career and I have every one of my fights on DVD at home. I don’t believe I was ever given a fair shot in the amateurs, I didn’t get the chance to go the European junior Olympic Games and it just frustrated me! I was going to give up boxing after that and then one day my dad rang me when I was in a pub and said that I was going to enter the ABA’s. I won that and then decided it was time to turn over as I had achieved what I could in the amateurs and it just seemed like a natural next step."
