Octavio had won twice before over his rival and was favored again, but after having Gallego in trouble with a two-fisted barrage in the 2nd round, he suffered a bad cut over his right eye in the 3rd when nailed with a hard left cross by his southpaw opponent. The wound worsened as the fight progressed, and finally it was stopped at the beginning of the 8th round.
