The end came at 55 seconds of the round with Yaoita staggering helplessly from a savage beating to the head and body. Perez started slowly. Yaoita outboxed and outslugged him in the first three rounds. Not until the 4th was Perez able to land solidly, bringing blood from Yaoita's nose. The fighter's collided savagely as both rushed together in the 5th. Perez fell to the canvas but bounced up quickly. It was not recorded as a knockdown. The two fought on almost even terms through the 5th, 6th and 7th. But by the 8th Perez had taken command. His punches to the body making Yaoita grimace with pain. In the 13th round a long left uppercut did the real damage. Yaoita staggered and blood from his injured nose went sailing across the ring as Perez smashed another left to the chin and a right that toppled Yaoita to the canvas. Yaoita came up at five and another left-right dropped him onto his back, his face a gory mess. He made one feeble effort to rise at nine but couldn't make it as referee Juan Notari tolled the fatal 10." -Associated Press
