Following a tough loss in a January '79 Golden Gloves bout, Peter graduated HS and began USMC boot camp.Upon graduation and completion of Basic Schooling, though there were no boxing facilities at his base,sparring at 160 pounds at a local naval base Peter caught the attention of former All-Navy and Olympic coach Dick Pettigrew who graciously "made a (very important)phone call". After a successful tryout at the Camp LeJeune(NC)"Snakepit", Peter boxed as an All-Marine team member while developing into a legitimate,though light, Heavyweight(190#).
