			-On March 28, 1957, one, Mrs. Lucretia Gravolet came forward claiming Ralph Dupas was a Negro born of a Negro mother, thus placing his Apr. 8, 1957 bout with 4th ranked Vince Martinez, to be held in New Orleans, in jeopardy due to a 1956 ruling by the Louisiana Legislation banning all racially mixed athletics.

			-On April 2, 1957, the Louisiana Boxing Commission okayed the Dupas-Martinez bout for April 8th. The Commission stated - after testimony from Dupas, his mother, a former teacher of Dupas' and a woman who attended his birth - that they found no reason to rescind the sanctioning of the bout but declined to rule on charges that Dupas was Negro, with Commission members feeling that was beyond their jurisdiction. Furthermore, they stated they could no longer sanction any more bouts for Dupas until he produced a birth certificate indicating his race.

			-On August 27, 1957, a black man named Christophe Duplessis, testified in District Court that he was Ralph Dupas' uncle and the brother of Dupas' mother. Upon further cross-examination, Mr. Duplessis admitted that Dupas' mother was orphaned and raised by his mother - Mrs. Joesphine Duplessis, who corroborated the testimony - and that she was not actually his sister.

			-On October 30, 1957, judge Rene A. Viosca, ordered the New Orleans Health Department to issue a birth certificate listing Dupas' parents (Evelyn and Peter) as white.
