"Raul Rojas of San Pedro won the California version of the world featherweight championship by unanimously decisioning Antonio Herrera of Columbia Thursday night at Olympic Auditorium. The 15 round battle was close all the way with the long arms and cuffing style of Herrera causing Rojas considerable difficulty. Herrera cuffed a scratch on Rojas' left eyelid early in the fight and had it bleeding most of the time. Referee George Latka warned Herrera several times about his cuffing tactics. Herrera fought a crouching, dancing fight and attempted to use his long arms to get through. Rojas, however, stayed inside and scored convincingly once the fight opened up. Neither fighter was down but Rojas landed the harder punches." -Pasadena Star-News

*Rojas' manager Jackie McCoy indicated that he would press the WBA for a showdown with the winner of the Howard Winstone v Mitsunori Seki WBC title bout due to take place the following month.
