He was declared the Regional Champion in two weights classes (165 lbs & 170 lbs)--which allowed him to represent the Central Region in the National Amateur Boxing Championships of Puerto Rico. Acevedo was crowned National Champion in both weight divisions. He won the Regional Championships three times and twice the National Championship of Puerto Rico.

	Acevedo spent six years as an amateur boxer, with a record of 50 wins (20 KOs) and one loss. His only loss was obtained in the National Championship Tournament Isaac Barrientos Amateur Boxing on February 10, 2008 against Carlos Negron in the qualifier to represent Puerto Rico in the 2008 pre-Olympic "Puerto Rico vs. USA" matches. In 2009, Acevedo made the Olympic team for the "XXI Juegos Centroamericanos y el Caribe Mayag?ez 2010." During the preparation for the Olympic Games, Acevedo decided to resign from the Olympic team to pursue his dream of becoming a professional boxer.
