The fight was schedule for november, but Parra injured his right knee durring a training sesion giving the oportunity to Roberto to fight for the interim title against Nº2 contender Takefumi Sakata from Japan. The fight took place on Paris, France on december 2nd. and Vasquez won a split desición over Sakata obtaining his second world crown.
