			Lockridge signed with New Jersey-based promotion company [[Main Events]] when he turned professional in 1978 and moved from Tacoma to New Jersey. He returned to Tacoma with his wife and twin sons in 1991, two years after his first retirement. Following an unsuccessful two-fight comeback and a divorce, Lockridge returned to New Jersey in 1993, settling in Camden.

			In January 1994, Lockridge took a job working for William Jones & Son, Inc., a drum and barrel company, where he cleaned and painted barrels for $8 per hour. Shortly thereafter, he was arrested for burglary and sentenced to five years probation. Three years later, he was arrested again for burglary and served 27 months in prison.

			Following his release from prison in July 1999, Lockridge returned to drugs and alcohol, which he started abusing in the 1980s, and ended up homeless.

			In 2006, Lockridge suffered a stroke while living on the streets. He was left with paralysis in one of his legs and was forced to walk with a cane thereafter.

			Lockridge's struggles with addiction were profiled on an episode of the A&E TV show ''Intervention'', which aired on April 5, 2010. A scene in which Lockridge has an emotional breakdown became a popular source for parody videos on YouTube. One of the videos, titled "Best Cry Ever," has over 51 million views.
