"Rodolfo Martinez of Mexico Saturday night retained his WBC bantamweight title when his challenger, Nestor 'Baba' Jimenez of Columbia, could not come out for the 8th round of a championship bout. The Mexican champion's win was entered into the record books as an 8th round TKO. Jimenez' handler, Socrates Cruz, ordered his pupil to stay put in his corner to avoid further punishment. By that time, both of Jimenez' cheeks were swollen and he was bleeding from the nose and mouth. Jimenez was knocked down once in the 7th round and he also touched the canvas in the 6th, but American referee Jay Edson ruled that a slip." -United Press International
