"Roy Gumbs, who successfully defended his Commonwealth middleweight title Tuesday night, doesn't waste time when he has work to do. Gumbs of Tottenham, England, pounded Ralph Hollett at the end of the 3rd round of their scheduled 12 rounder and the Canadian had to be helped to his corner. Then he finished off Hollett of Halifax before the 4th round was 30 seconds old, much to the disappointment of the 7,500 fans at the Metro Centre. After the bell sounded to begin the 4th, Gumbs raced across the ring and caught Hollett in his corner, landing hard rights and lefts to the head. Hollett escaped trouble but then Gumbs chased the Canadian champ across the ring and unleashed a barrage of right leads, left hooks, combinations and uppercuts that left a defenseless Hollett dangling on the ropes. Referee Bob Beaton ended the bout at the 25 second mark of the 4th. By that time Hollett's father had tossed in the towel." -Canadian Press
