"The old adage if at first you don't succeed, try, try again, could be applied to Jose Fernandez, Santo Domingo's junior lightweight, who, after two setbacks, finally scored a split triumph in a third skirmish with Sammy Goss, Trenton, New Jersey, in their 10 rounder in the NY Forum. Fernandez started to take the play away from his shorter foeman after the 1st round and his left jab plus his right made the pace torrid for Goss. Goss, after the 1st round, didn't again score until the 5th stanza and again in the 8th. In the interim the Dominican entry did his job and his frequent flurries offset the efforts of Goss." -Ring Magazine, October 1974 issue
