McKinney Enjoys Home Cookin' Baby Doll Scores Quick KO
By Jack Purcell (North Charleston, SC, March 28, 2002)
WBF and CBA Light Heavyweight Champ
Dennis McKinney made the 100 mile trip down I-26 from Columbia to Charleston
worth his while as he TKO'ed overmatched J.B. Parker of Charlotte, N.C. when he
couldn't answer the bell for round two in front of a near SRO crowd at the
Plex. McKinney had his way in the first round and Parker, who looked like Cisco
with a beer belly and a bad pair of boxer shorts, winced in pain from a left
shoulder injury late in the round and could not continue. Afterwards McKinney
said he is looking forward to a title defense on ESPN in September.
In the co-feature, L.A.'s Bridgett "Baby Doll" Riley made short work of Karen
Hutchenson of Wilson, NC, landing a straight right for a KO at :35 seconds of
the opening round. Riley, with powerful legs is built to go the distance,
thanked the crowd for their support and reminded them to keep God #1 and
everything else comes second. She's looking to string some W's together here in
the south as a co-headliner.
The punch of the night was a straight right by Charleston Heavyweight Timmy
Grant that put Florence native Richard Friday to sleep at 1:51 of the opening
round.
In an action packed Super Middleweight contest, Goose Creek's Ah meets Ben
Yehuda, the boxer formerly known as Justin Mays won a four round UD
(39-37,39-37, 39-37) over Beaufort's Marion Anderson. Yehuda dropped Anderson
just before the bell in round one and it proved to be the difference.
Beaufort Light Heavy Osiris Ayise scored a four round UD (40-36, 40-36, 40-36)
over John Lindsey of Eden, NC. Lindsey was the stronger puncher but tired early
and the busier Ayise prevailed.
