Aron Martinez Violently KO’s Joshua Marks[http://www.pound4pound.com/FightReport/2012/MartinezKOsMarks.htm]
East Los Angeles’ Aron Martinez 17-1-1, 4KOs viciously dispatches Joshua Marks 8-4, 8KOs at the 2:32 mark
of round number seven in the main event of “Locked N’ Loaded,” hosted by Thomson Boxing Promotions at the
Double Tree Hotel in Ontario, CA. The headlining bout was originally scheduled for eight rounds in the
welterweight division.
Aron “Asesino” Martinez, 30, began the fight methodically stalking his illusive counterpart. The East Los
fighter displayed a focused body attack, often finding ways to land solid blows to his opponent’s torso.
He allowed his opponent to back him against the ropes, seemingly luring him in and taking away his speed
advantage. The latter allowed Martinez to '''catch Joshua Marks''' on his way in. Capitalizing on his opponent’s
most prominent flaw, which was that he would lean in whenever he saw an opening. Thus, giving Martinez
ample opportunities to land his '''right upper cut''' as he did in round number four. The blow sent him reeling
against the ropes of his own corner. He then followed through and pummeled Marks '''to score his first'''
'''knockdown in the fourth round.''' Joshua Marks would survive. The Colorado native rose from the canvas to
have a stellar fifth round. He was fighting as an underdog and already had suffered a knock down at this
point in the bout. Nonetheless he valiantly continued to press the fight and made Aron Martinez earn his
keep. Joshua Marks’ aggression eventually caught up to him when Martinez landed another devastating right
uppercut followed by '''a surprisingly fast left hook in round number seven'''. In a blink of an eye the fight
was over; '''Marks was knocked out cold on his back''' with his arms over his head.
Sindy Amador Defeats Toughest Opposition Yet!
Riverside’s '''Sindy “La Alacrana” Amador''' 8-0, 1KOs does not disappoint partisan crowd by '''scoring a unanimous'''
'''decision victory against Amaris Quintana''' 6-1-2, 1KO. Amador won '''despite having suffered a cut above her'''
'''left eye as a result of an incidental head bunt in the second round of the scheduled six''' round flyweight
scrap.
Amaris “Diamond Girl” Quintana proved to be more than a formidable opponent. She had a great fourth round
fighting from outside. However, Amador’s relentless right and left hooks never stopped. '''One judge scored
the bout 58-56 while the remaining judges scored it 59-55''' all in favor of the Sindy Amador.
Jhonatan Romero Outclasses Opposition
Colombia’s '''Jhonatan “momo” Romero''' 21-0, 12KOs victorious '''with unanimous decision against Mexico’s Adolfo'''
'''Landeros''' 21-25, 10KOs. Romero was the most talented boxer on display tonight. The Colombian pugilist had
complete command of the ring from the inception of the bout. He worked masterfully off his stick, letting
loose then moving to his left. His straight right came into play often penetrating Landeros’ guard. Momo’s
unstoppable combos were also a huge factor in the bout. Jhonathan Romero’s, 25, was too fast for his
stationary counterpart. At the final bell, '''one judge ringside scored the bout 80-72 while the remaining
judges had tallies of 80-71''', all in favor of the Colombian pugilist.
Romero came into tonight’s co-feature fresh off an impressive split decision victory against highly touted
Chris Avalos. After tonight’s victory he set himself up to face Rico Ramos who happened to be in the ring
after the fight and engaged the Romero in the customary stare down.
Rigoberto Flores Does It Again
Tenacious '''Rigorberto Flores''' 4-1, 2KOs '''scores a hard fought unanimous decision victory against Pedro Arcos'''
'''in a six round lightweight scrap.''' This fight was a highly competitive bout that pitted the more polished
boxer in Pedro Arcos 8-2, 6KOs against a straight brawler in Rigoberto Flores.
San Bernandino’s Flores was relentless in his attack. He probably gave up the first two rounds, which saw
the more polished Arcos land, the cleaner punches. Rigoberto never waivered and eventually wore down his
counterpart. Round number four saw Flores land two deadly overhand rights. The final two rounds saw the
action heat up; however, it was Rigoberto who pressed the action and earned the victory with ruthless
aggression. '''All three judges scored the bout 60-54.'''
Sergio Nunez Quickly Dispatches Flores
'''Sergio “ El Tarascco” Nunez 6-0-1 4KOs stops Ramon Flores 3-16-2, 3KOs at the 2:40 mark in the initial'''
'''round of a bout that was originally scheduled for four''' rounds in the lightweight division. Sylmar’s Nunez
connected on a perfectly placed looping left hook to score his first knockdown. Flores was able make the
count but was unable to stop the barrage that followed.
Juan Reyes Earns First Professional Stoppage
Riversides '''Juan Reyes 5-1-1, 1KO stops Pablo Cupul at the 2:46 of round number three''' of the scheduled.
The partisan fighter was relentless in his attack from the inception of the bout. Pablo Cupul 6-6, 4KOs
put up a respectable defense with blows of his own. Albeit, Reyes would only grow stronger as the fight
progressed and the damage he caused was greater than Cupul’s counters. The third man in the ring was
exceptional in stopping the bout before Pablo Cupul suffered any further punishment.
Isaac Zarate Victorious In Opening Bout
In the opening bout, '''Isaac Zarate 3 -0 scored a unanimous decision victory against Gustavo Rojas 0-1 in'''
'''a four round bantamweight bout.''' The '''southpaw''' pinched a shutout with an unstoppable straight left. Zarate
also mixed in his left upper cut, hurting his counterpart in the final assault. The San Pedro native
proved to be too much for the over matched Rojas. '''All three judges scored the bout 40-36.
Martinez KO’s Marks in 7![http://standnfight.com/martinez-kos-marks-in-7/]
East L.A welterweight Aron Martinez (16-1-1, 3 KOs) brutally knocked out Joshua Marks (8-3,8 KOs) in the
seventh round on Friday night at the Double Tree Hotel in Ontario Ca.
Martinez came out jabbing in the first round but seemed a little confused by Marks’ style. In the third
Marks let his hands go and had some success while Martinez laid back and patiently waited to counter. In
the fourth, Martinez landed a right hand that sent Marks to the canvas on one knee. Marks would beat the
count and in the Sixth, landed a left hand from the southpaw stance that got the blood flowing out of
Martinez’s nose. After out working Martinez in the sixth, Marks got a little over confident in the
seventh and caught a right hand in the face. The right uppercut, left hook combination that followed sent
Marks crashing to the canvas. Referee Raul Caiz Jr. immediately stepped in and called a halt to the bout
without a ten count. Official time was 2:32
In the co-feature, a battle between unbeaten female fighters saw Sindy Amador (8-0, 1 KO) grind out a
unanimous decision over San Diego’s Amaris Quintana (6-1-2, 1 KO) after six rounds in the Jr. flyweight
division. Amador came out at the bell and rushed Quintana, overwhelming her with pressure and non-stop
punches. The right hand, left hook combinations that swelled Amador’s right eye did nothing to deter the
Riverside fighter from pressing forward. The “Diamond Girl” Quintana found her range in the fourth and
boxed well but could not fight off the furious, whirlwind attack in the following rounds. In the end,
judges would call out scores of 59-55, 59-55 and 58-56 all for “La Alacran” Amador.
On the undercard,
Colombian super bantamweight Jhonatan Romero (21-0, 12 KOs) scored a one-sided unanimous decision over
Mexican journeyman Adolfo Landeros (20-23-2, 10 KOs) after eight rounds. After a technical first and
second, Romero came out and unleashed an arsenal of shots that had referee Raul Caiz Jr. looking close
and on the verge of stopping the contest. Seeing that Landeros wasn’t going out early, Romero went back
to boxing and technically dissected his opponent round by round to earn scores of 80-72 and 80-71 by the
remaining two judges.
San Fernando slugger Rigoberto Flores (4-1, 2 KOs) pounded out a six round unanimous decision over
previously unbeaten Pedro Arcos (12-0-1, 9 KOs) of Tijuana MX. After being out boxed in the opening round,
Flores came out in the second and took it to his opponent, pressing the action and landing thudding right
hands and wild left hooks. Midway through, Arcos was holding on and walking himself into corners and
against the ropes as Flores begged him to stand and fight in the middle of the ring. In the final round,
dead tired and clearly ahead on points Flores still refused to let up. He continued to press the action
to the delight of the cheering crowd. In the end, scores would read 58-56, 60-54 and 59-55 all for
“El Asesino” Flores.
Sylmar lightweight Sergio Nunez (6-0-1, 3 KOs) crushed his opponent Ramon Flores (3-14-2, 3 KOs) in the
opening round of a scheduled six. A right cross rocked Flores and a follow up combination sent him down
and through the ropes. The Santa Ana fighter made it to his feet and would be allowed to continue but
the all out assault that followed prompted referee Raul Caiz Jr. to step in and save Flores from further
punishment. Time was 2:42.
Super bantamweight Juan Reyes (5-1-1) punished a game Pablo Cupul (2-4-2, 2 KOs) to earn a third round
stoppage. Reyes came out and pounded the head and body of the Lakeside fighter until referee Lou Moret
stepped in and stopped the beating at the 2:46 mark. Cupul remained on his feet and throwing back but
was clearly outclassed. The crowd boo’d the referee stoppage.
Opening the night of action was southpaw Isaac Zarate (3-0) of San Pedro Ca. who dominated Gustavo Rojas
(0-1) en route to a four round unanimous decision. Zarate rocked the Fresno fighter numerous times with
left uppercuts but was unable to stop him. Scores would read 40-36 by all three judges.
Aron Martinez KOs Marks; Amador Decisions Quintana[http://www.thesweetscience.com/news/articles/14578--aron-martinez-kos-marks-amador-decisions-quintana]
BY David A. Avila; TheSweetScience.com ON May 12, 2012
Thompson Boxing Promotions LONTARIO, CALIF.-In a rousing welterweight battle East L.A.'s Aron Martinez
knocked out Colorado's very competitive Joshua “Superman” Marks with a right uppercut, left hook
combination in the seventh round on Friday night.
Thompson Boxing Promotions featured two main events including the Martinez (17-1-1, 4 KOs) and Marks
(8-4, 8 KOs) shootout and a female bout between undefeated junior flyweight boxers. The Doubletree Hotel
had a crowd of more than 1,000 in attendance.
Martinez started fast against Marks and seemed the quicker fighter. Marks, a southpaw, was hit early in
the fight but managed to survive. Body shots by Martinez were his most effective punches. The shorter
Marks continued throughout the fight plowing into Martinez who shifted one way or the other to deflect
the Coloradoan's rushes. A left hook in round three was his biggest blow. Marks looked to increase the
tempo and looked good early in round four. Then he was caught with a left uppercut and four-punch combo
and down he went. He survived.
Round five saw Marks turn things around and become more effective fighting inside. By crowding Martinez
he was able to land more frequently. It was his best round. Marks kept attacking with his head down and
paid the price by absorbing several uppercuts from the East L.A. fighter point blank. A right uppercut-
left hook combination knocked out Marks cold at 2:32 of round seven. Referee Raul Caiz Jr. didn't bother
to count.
Female bout
After six rounds of a junior flyweight match Sindy Amador (8-0) of Riverside was judged the winner over
San Diego's Amaris Quintana (6-1-2). It was Quintana's first loss.
Amador attacked and tried to bull her way in but missed and was countered by Quintana in the first round.
A few jabs by the San Diego fighter found the mark. A left hook by Amador landed near the end.
Amador rushed in with her head down in round two and was accidentally butted by Quintana. A cut formed
on the side of Amador's left eye but after a brief look by the ringside physician the fight resumed.
Quintana continued to land the jabs as Amador continued the pressure and winging wide shots and flurries.
Amador was the busier fighter in round three as she pressured and pressured. Many of the blows did not
land but she had more punches thrown than Quintana. Toward the end of the round Quintana landed some good
blows but Amador was the busier boxer. Quintana began the fourth round boxing and giving angles as Amador
looked to corner the San Diego fighter. Quintana used her jab and combos effectively as Amador looked to
corner her opponent. A solid left hook counter landed for Quintana. A right counter by Amador scored too.
In the fifth round Quintana began the round boxing and moving and scoring combinations. Whenever Quintana
stayed in the middle of the ring she was in control. Amador ended the last half of the round with some
combos of her own inside that scored with her flurries. Quintana's jab was effective once again.
Both female boxers fired furious exchanges in the sixth and final round. Amador moved in with her head
down and Quintana moving side to side while firing punches from the outside and inside. Amador fired
flurries on the inside and Quintana scored with left hooks and a few right hands. All three judges
favored the inside flurries 59-55 twice and 58-56 for Amador.
A rematch clause was signed and both will return this time in San Diego.
Other bouts
Colombia's Jhonatan “Momo” Romero (21-0, 12 KOs) blitzed through rugged Adolfo Landeros (20-24-2, 10 KOs)
all eight rounds and nearly stopped the rock chin Mexican fighter. But the featherweight match lasted all
eight rounds and displayed Romero's speed and reflexes as he pummeled Landeros throughout. In round three
Romero nearly forced a stoppage, but Landeros was able to evade the killing blow. One judge scored it
80-72 and two others 80-71 for Romero.
San Fernando's Rigoberto “Asesino” Flores (4-1, 2 KOs) upset undefeated Pedro Arcos (12-1-1, 9 KOs) with
a withering attack that overwhelmed the junior welterweight fighter from Tijuana. After a good first round
Arcos couldn't sustain his energy level and that was right up Flores's alley. He fought non-stop and landed
uppercuts and left hooks that turned around the fight in his favor. All three judges scored it for Flores,
58-56, 60-54 and 59-55.
Their first fight ended in a draw, this fight was won emphatically by Sergio Nunez (6-0-1, 4 KOs). Santa
Ana's Ramon Flores (3-15-2) and Sylmar's Nunez fought 18 months ago at Chumash Casino. This time Nunez sent
Flores through the ropes with a crushing right cross, and when he beat the count, another flurry of blows
ended the fight by technical knockout at 2:40 of the first round. Nunez remains undefeated.
Riverside's Juan Reyes (5-1-1) battered Pablo Cupul (2-5-2) for three rounds non-stop until referee Lou
Moret decided to stop the fight. Cupul protested the stoppage but was taking a lot of blows though he was
never close to going down. The one-sided bantamweight fight was stopped at 2:46 of round three.
San Pedro's Isaac Zarate (3-0) pounded through Gus Rojas' (0-2) defense for all four rounds of a
bantamweight fight. The southpaw was the quicker fighter and all three judges scored it 40-36 in his favor.
The cards originally were read incorrectly for Rojas of Fresno and a chorus of boos cascaded the ballroom.
It was quickly remedied by announcer Sonny Franco.
