A warm night near the ocean in Del Mar, CA, was the host for Jorge Marron Productions in association with Paco
Presents and A&T Gym’s “Battle in the Saddle” inside the Paddock area of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Along with the
five professional bouts, a special attraction exhibition fight between horse racing jockeys Elvis “Heartbreak”
Trujillo and Corey “Knockout” Nakatani headlined the night. Judged by fans picked out the crowd, Panama’s Elvis
Trujillo won an entertaining three rounder via unanimous decision and even dropped the Nakatani in the third
round with a straight right.

In the main event of the pro boxing card, Ruben Garcia (11-0, 5KOs) of Mexico City was awarded a controversial
unanimous decision over Javier Gallo (29-10-1, 12KOs) of Buena Park, CA, by way of Tijuana over a super
bantamweight six rounds.
Gallo came out like a bat out of hell from the opening bell as he went after Garcia’s body with hard hooks.
Gallo was successful getting on the inside and put together more than one punch to the mid-section. By the middle
of the fight the taller Garcia was able to set up his distance and began to catch Gallo with long rights that
snapped Gallo’s head back. Gallo kept moving forward and used his excellent waist bending to get under the jab of
Garcia and keep attacking the body.
By the fourth it was evident that Gallo was losing a lot of steam on his punches but he kept trying to score but
Garcia was able to score more often and accurately with straight punches that kept Gallo at bay.
The sixth and final round was all Garcia as Gallo didn’t have much more in the tank and allowed Garcia to score
almost at will. Surprisingly, judge Alejandro Rochin scored it 58-56, Tony Crebs 60-54 and Sergio Caiz 59-55 all
for Garcia while Fightnews.com saw it 58-56 for Gallo.
Ceballos Stays Unbeaten
The 6”5’ Manuel Ceballos (3-0, 2KOs) gave Jerome Buchanan (0-2) a boxing lesson as he was the more aggressive,
accurate and effective with his punches. Buchanan of Los Angeles was the one moving forward but the slightly taller
Ceballos was the one catching him coming in with an array of punches, straight right after taking a step back, an
uppercut when he staid in close and hooks to either side of the body. To Buchanan’s credit, he never stopped
attacking Ceballos but the Mexican was just too schooled for him landing three and four punch combinations
frequently through out the rounds. Buchanan also displayed a chin of granite as he walked through a number of hard
rights from Ceballos and proved to be the first man to go the distance with the man from Yucatan, Mexico.
Final tally was all 40-36 for Ceballos.
Gonzalez Defeats Chacon
Southpaw Ali Gonzalez (6-2, 1KO) made his first fight north of the border a successful one as he was awarded a
deserved unanimous decision over Raymond Chacon (5-9) of Northridge, CA in a four round bout in the featherweight
division. Gonzalez of Tijuana kept his guard tight as Chacon looked for openings against his southpaw opponent.
It wasn’t until the second round that Gonzalez was able to really land some punches as he trapped Chacon against
the ropes and went to work to the body and head. Chacon had his moments, as he was able to counterpunch Gonzalez
with a right hook as the Tijuana fighter threw his own right hook to the body from too far of a distance.
Gonzalez simply just did more and more often as he landed the harder punches and more of them. All three judges
scored it 39-37 for Gonzalez from Tijuana.
Quevedo Spoils Benavides’ Party
Oceanside, CA’s Raymond Benavides (0-1) fell short in his first pro fight as he dropped a unanimous decision to
Ricky Quevedo (1-1) of Palm Springs, CA, in a featherweight four rounder. Quevedo proved to be to much as he went
after Benavides from the opening bell and never let it up attacking to the body with hard hooks. Benavides tried
to make it a fight as he counterpunched the attack from Quevedo but it wasn’t enough and in the last two rounds
it was evident he was spent wile Quevedo looked for the knock out. Judge Alejandro Rochin scored it 40-36 while
Sergio Caiz and Tony Crebs both saw it 39-37 for Quevedo.
Other Results:
In a super welterweight four rounder, Culiacan, Mexico’s Yair “Pulpo” Aguiar (13-21-2, 5KO) and Mario Angeles
(1-5-2) of Mexico City fought to a hard fought draw. Scores were 38-38 twice by judges Alejandro Rochin and Tony
Crebs while Sergio Caiz saw it 39-37 for Angeles.
