In a clash for the vacant WBA interim world heavyweight title, unbeaten Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz
(22-0, 19 KOs) scored a first round KO over previously unbeaten Lateef “Power” Kayode (20-1, 16 KOs) on
Thursday night at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Ortiz dropped Kayode in round one and
later got the stoppage from referee Robert Byrd with a barrage of unanswered punches just before the bell.
Kayode complained about the stoppage, which seemed a bit quick. Time was 2:55. Ortiz joins Wladimir
Klitschko and Ruslan Chagaev as fighters recognized as some form of WBA world heavyweight champion.

In the co-feature, WBA interim featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar (25-1, 19 KOs) scored a spectacular
second round KO over former two division champion Juan Manuel Lopez (34-5, 31 KOs). Cuellar came out
aggressively and took the fight to Juanma. In round two a flush right hook left Juanma face down on the
canvas. Time was 1:36.
Unbeaten middleweight contender Jermall Charlo (19-0, 15 KOs) scored a seventh round TKO over Norberto
Gonzalez (20-5, 13 KOs). Charlo dropped Gonzalez in round five and pounded on him until the bout was
waved off by referee Kenny Bayless at 1:43.
In a clash of unbeaten jr middleweights, Julian “J-Rock” Williams (17-0-1, 10 KOs) won an eight round
unanimous decision over Eliezer Gonzalez (14-1, 9 KOs). Scores were 80-72 on all cards. Williams was
busier.
Unbeaten 2012 Olympian jr middleweight Errol Spence (14-0, 11 KOs) won when Noe Bolanos (24-11-1, 16 KOs)
din’t come out for round three citing a hand injury.
Former world title challenger Josesito “The Riverside Rocky” Lopez (32-7, 19 KOs) won a workmanlike eight
round unanimous decision over Rafael Cobos (15-5-5, 3 KOs) in a welterweight bout. All three cards were
80-72.
Unbeaten lightweight Jamel Herring (9-0, 6 KOs) halted Luis Pelayo (11-5, 7 KOs) in round two.
Unbeaten cruiserweight Jordan Shimmell (17-0 14 KOs) punished former world title challenger Joell Godfrey
(17-12-1, 6 KOs) until the bout was halted at 1:17 of round seven.
