			On an already warm Friday night, Steve Mestas and Airtight Boxing, turned the heat up inside Salon Madrid for some
			very entertaining boxing in the Mile High City. Nine bouts completed the “Art of War” card, all fights were fairly
			matched, and exciting to the end. Many fighters making their pro debut on Friday night, eager to start their careers,
			and picked an excellent night to do so.
			‘Crossroads’ is a term we continue to use when mentioning this light welterweight fight. Robert Rodriguez (7-4, 3KOs),
			with the will to continue on his career, and Rob Frankel (33-15, 6KOs) eager to show that his career is not over.
			Both men met in the middle to give fight fans one exhilarating fight.
			Frankel established a good strong jab early in the fight, keeping the brawler Rodriguez at the end of his punches.
			Frankel’s footwork and defensive movement allowed him to use all corners of the ring, and setting the tempo for the
			first few rounds of the fight. Rodriguez finally stepping on the gas, was able to catch Frankel in moments and throw
			hard shots to the body, trying to slow down his moving opponent. When Rodriguez was able to put both his hands
			together, he was effective and delivered quite the power. Frankel showed a great display of boxing, throwing a good
			1-2 and quickly stepping to the side, frustrating his opponent who was eager to exchange. Rodriguez capitalized on
			the moments he could walk Frankel backwards to the ropes, keep him there with combination after combination, until
			Frankel stepped around to put the fight back into the center of the ring. After eight hard hitting rounds, the fight
			went to the scorecards. Judges scoring the bout 79-73, 75-74, 78-74 for the unanimous decision victory for Rob “Red
			Hot” Frankel.
			Merceron takes the lead with a UD over Medina
			Giovanni “The Predator” Merceron (5-1) was able to outbox the hard hitting Juan Medina (1-1), however making it a
			little closer than I think he would’ve liked for five rounds of jr. middleweight action. Merceron set the pace high
			for round one, using his footwork to dance around Medina and make him miss. Medina’s come forward style didn’t work
			so well until round two when he was able to cut off the ring for Merceron and keep his opponent in front of him.
			Merceron’s movement slowed down round three to five, making the rounds hard to score with both men having great
			exchanges, but never really having the upper hand. It was Merceron’s precise, and more effective punches that pulled
			him ahead of Medina giving him the decision. Judges scorecards read 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47.
			Amaya pulls out the split decision victory over Anderson
			Liza Amaya (5-0) put her undefeated record on the line, and met her closest match to date with Elizabeth Anderson
			(4-4) in a featherweight bout. While TLC’s Amaya definitely earns her nickname “Too Slick Too Quick”, Anderson did a
			good job surprising Amaya, catching her with a good cross and being more the aggressor. Amaya’s cleaner punches and
			great boxing skills pulled her ahead of her opponent, but only on two scorecards. Judges scored the bout 50-45, 49-46
			Amaya, with one card 49-46 for Anderson.
			Rodriguez begins record with UD over Corona
			Before the main event, in what could easily have been the fight of the night, Juan ‘Johnny’ Rodriguez (1-0) stepped
			in the ring for his pro debut over Alfredo Corona (0-1) who was also making his pro debut at jr. middleweight. Round
			one quickly started with hard hitting action. Rodriguez setting the pace, delivering precise combinations to Corona,
			but leaving himself open for Corona to counter back and stun his opponent. Loud “ooohs” from the crowd put fans on
			the edge of their seat, as both men were seeing stars. Throughout the rounds continuing, Rodriguez chopped away at
			the body of Corona, but Corona showing tremendous heart, making hard work for his opponent to go down. For four
			rounds, fans saw clean exchanges, and were entertained with one heck of a fight, but Rodriguez earning every bit of
			the unanimous decision victory.
			Rodriguez Decisions Delgado
			Ricky Rodriguez (2-0) took the unanimous decision over Denver boxing veteran Jairo Delgado (3-9) in jr. lightweight
			bout. Rodriguez showed tons of patience and composure for only having being his second start as a pro. Delgado never
			pulling the trigger on his opponent, picked his shots and gave Rodriguez the opportunity to be quicker to the draw.
			Rodriguez starting out his career undefeated has some great potential to be an amazing fighter.
			Cobb Clobbers Anderson
			Light heavyweight “Dangerous” Donald Cobb (2-0) had an easy night with his opponent Jason Anderson (0-1), with a
			knockout :47 seconds into the first round. Hardly breaking a sweat, there will be good things to see from Cobb as he
			continues his career.
			Pineda Makes GTG Proud in Debut
			Jr. welterweight Adrian Pineda (1-0) of Ghost Town Gladiators, wins his pro debut against Andrew Almaguer (0-1) with
			a second round TKO. Almaguer showing his pro-debut jitters came in wild over his more composed opponent Pineda.
			Almaguer, coming in with an overhand right hurt his shoulder when Pineda sat low waiting to counter his opponent,
			not able to continue the fight.
			Flores Outlasts Ayala
			For an intense match up of jr. middleweights, Alonso Flores (1-1) has his hands raised for the first time over
			Alejandro Ayala (0-4). The wild Flores applied a lot of pressure to his opponent, but with much momentum walked into
			a lot of shots and at one point almost went flying thru the ropes. Ayala dropping Flores in round two during an
			exchange where Flores wanted to be ‘tough’ and drop his hands. Quick to recover, Flores out-punched his opponent,
			and led the very close decision of 38-37 on all scorecards.
			Gladwin Over Martinez
			Opening the night, was the amateur exhibition where Rachel Gladwin took the lead over Cecelia Martinez. Gladwin was
			able to keep her shorter opponent at the end of her punches, landing the cleaner shots. Martinez attacked the body
			well, but didn’t do it enough to make Gladwin wilt. Both women have the potential to create some exciting fights in
			their future.
			All in all, a great night of fights from Steve Mestas, with an electric crowd at Salon Madrid. Next up for Colorado
			fight fans will be the Jim ‘Smitty’ Smith and Poor Boys Pro Boxing show at the infinity on October 16th. Following
			that one, Colorado fight fans can expect some great boxing to come from New Generation Fight Promotions with their
			show scheduled for November 1st. A title fight featuring another great local match-up of Manny Perez taking on Cesar
			Holguin.
