CLARKSBURG — For the first time in more than two decades, Clarksburg will host a live
night of professional and amateur live boxing matches today at the Nathan Goff Armory.
“It’s been 22 years since we’ve had pro-am boxing here in town,” promoter Jerry Thomas
said. “It doesn’t seem that long to me, but wow, time does fly.”
The Nathan Goff Armory was the site of several Tommy Thomas fights in the late 1970s and
early 1980s, and Thomas was ranked in the top 10 of the world heavyweight at that time.
There won’t be any heavyweights among the four pro fights that highlight the card this
time around.
A light-heavyweight bout between Flemington’s “Iron” Mike Snider (4-0-1) and Jerry Dyer
of Newark, Ohio, is the feature bout. Snider is a two-time Clarksburg Toughman winner.
Another light-heavyweight bout will feature former two-time Toughman light heavyweight
Eric “The Rock” Preston (1-1) of Cumberland, Md., who will face “Nasty” Nate Hall (1-1,
1 KO) of Parkersburg..
Middleweight Tyler Cottrill, of Gassaway, will make his pro boxing debut versus former
two-time Toughman champion Bryant “The Beats” Bevins, of Winchester, Va. The final pro
fight of the evening features Toronto, Canada’s Samuel Vargas (18-1-1, 8 KOs) against
Wheeling’s Bruce Runkle (5-4-1).
Featured amateur fighters are: Former Toughwoman champion and Miss Ring Girl Karisa
“Cherry Bomb” Singleton, of Glenville, former Toughman Elkins Champion Matt
“Gladiator” Wright, of Weston, former Elkins Toughman lightweight Champion Dakota
“Lone Wolf” Linger, of Buckhannon, Cordelle “Rampage” Jackson, of Clarksburg, Elkins
Toughman heavyweight champion Gary “The Philadelphia Beast” Washington versus the
Beckley Toughman champion Dell Long, of Artie.
Clarksburg Toughwoman champ Haley Bishop, of Clarksburg will take on the Beckley
Toughwoman champion Marisa Long.
Others set to rumble include Cody Wilson, Zack Huberton, Clarksburg Toughman Champion
Brandon Perkins versus Travis Exline and many more fighters from the Tommy Thomas
Boxing Club, Leon’s Ramsey’s Dawg House Gym, Team Outlaw, Dawg House Parkersburg, Jim’s
Gym, Redman’s Pound 4 Pound, Bull Pen Fight Club, Eddie Williams Boxing Club, and the
Combination Boxing Club of Cumberland, MD.
Tickets are on sale at Speedway stores in Bridgeport and Buckhannon, Rich Oil stores in
Clarksburg and Fairmont. Tickets prices are $20 general admission and $25 reserved.
The event is being promoted by Jerry Thomas’ West Virginia Sports Promotions, Inc — the
same company that promotes the annual Toughman Contest. It has been sanctioned and will
be supervised by the West Virginia Athletic Commission.
