Lyle McDowell Regains WI State Title in Brewtown Battle Royale[http://www.theringside.biz/news.php?readmore=1109]
The Ring Side Biz - Posted on November 23, 2014, 8:56 PM by jkemp
Four and a half years following their original showdown, '''Lyle McDowell''' (28-13-1, 19 KOs)and '''Enobong Umohette'''
(9-2, 8 KOs) took the Main Event '''in a rematch for the WI State Heavyweight title''' along with a junior title
of '''UBF''' at the Ibom Stars Promotion's Crowne Battle Royale-Clash of the Kings.
Umohette showed the younger agility and control to open the match, connecting with jabs that energized the
crowd. McDowell stood steady, absorbing the attacks and mounting his own responses with heavy lefts.
As the second round opened, Omuhette effectively pushed forward finding openings to deliver jarring rights
to the head of McDowell. Again, McDowell absorbed the attacks with a counter that seemed to have stunned the
defending champ. Both combatants were swinging for an early finish as they both appeared to show reduced
speed and movement into the forth round. '''As the fourth round closed, Umohette appeared to be wincing from'''
'''upper body movement. He was unable to return to action as the start of the fifth round. The referee waved'''
'''off the fight''' giving the seasoned, McDowell the titles. Both announced that there will be a third
championship installment of the battle in the future.
Other action:
In the Co-Main Event, local favorite '''Benito Tovar''' (5-1-1, 4 KOs) '''controlled the flow of action against''' an
active '''Luquan Lewis''' (1-8, 1 KO). Tovar demonstrated some technical combinations that ate up his smaller
opponent. '''An uppercut at the end of a vicious combo attack leveled Lewis in the second round. Lewis rebounded'''
'''only to be knocked through the ropes with a straight right for a second knockdown just before the bell. Tovar'''
'''dropped Lewis again with a right hook at the start of the third round. The ringside doctor jumped in to tend'''
'''to the down Lewis as the referee stopped the fight at 34 seconds into the 3rd round.'''
'''Javonte Powell''' (1-2, 1 KO) [pictured at left] was determined to get into the win column as '''a large gash above'''
'''his right eye on a accidental headbutt''' was not going to stop him against '''Ronell Davis''' (0-1). Powell showed he
was there for BIZness as he connected on a huge straight right at the opening bell. Powell worked
relentlessly on obtaining the close exchange, throwing with consistency and precision. '''An uppercut leveled
'''Davis at the end of the opening round. As Davis was trying to recover, the referee waved off the fight.'''
'''The time of the stoppage was 3:00'''.
'''Dennis Morris''' (6-1, 5 KOs) took on a heavyweight challenge from '''James Roe''' (1-5, 1 KO) where body attacking
combos made for a one-sided match. The much slower Roe found himself trapped in corners for most of his ring
time, covering defensively. With a straight up stance, Roe covered the body leaving the head open throughout.
'''Morris attacked the body non-stop, leading to a knockdown at 59 seconds of the 2nd round that Roe could not'''
'''regain footing by the end of the 10 count''' to create a roaring buzz from Morris' local following. The '''KO2'''
became official '''at :59 of the round'''.
In the opening bout, '''Armando Alvarez''' (2-0, 1 KO) took on the '''debuting Lamontay Williams''' (0-1). Williams only
offense seemed to be a defense of run and cover as Alvarez progressed forward with his open left jab
opportunities. The lesser experienced Williams throw pawing punches that could not connect because of his
lack of depth experience. Alvarez sensed the end was coming and attacked with rights to the head and body
leading to '''Williams' corner trying to stop the fight before he kissed the canvas. Williams could not return
'''to his feet before the count of 10. The KO2 victory ended at 1:17.'''
