Murphy went at Smith savagely in the first round, but received a left hand jab in the mouth which took the majority of the fight out of him. He came back for the second round a bit worse for wear, received an awful left-hand punch in the stomach and then a right-hand punch on the jaw. He fell near the ropes, felt that he had enough of it, and feigned a knockout.
