New page

Just had the pleasure of watching this bout as it was aired on 7 December 2006 on the Versus network. Duran appeared to be in control of the bout from before the first bell, as Cuevas attempted a head game by making him wait in the ring. Duran merely kept loose, winking and smiling at the crowd. When Cuevas finally emerged from his dressing room he simply looked like a worried man.

Although the first three rounds were fairly close, Duran definately was gaining momentum. Then in round four Duran's boxing skills proved superior and his power was sufficient to demolish the former Welterweight champ in relatively short order.

While the spectre of "No Mas" was not dispelled by this bout, it did improve his stock, and put him in line for Davey Moore's Jr. Middleweight Championship.
