	~~Salisbury amateur boxing club was formed in the heart of Liverpool's inner-city in 1974.~~

	The club which has become universally known as the Solly was born through the ideas of Tony Lynch (who sadly passed away in 1996), Tony Wright (now life vice president), Johnny Reagan and Alan Lynch (coach & club matchmaker).

	~~Over the years the Solly has had three homes, all of which where situated on Salisbury Street from where it derives its name.~~

	The first of its 3 homes was in the Community Hall which was home for 8 years and where the club produced its first ABA Senior champion and international prospect Greg Evens who was crowned light-heavyweight champion in 1976 when he decisively out pointed red-hot favourite Steve Crosby, Greg then went on to represent England at an international level.

	The Salisbury's second home came in 1982 when it moved just up the road to take over the basement area of the Metal building. During our stay here we seen some great boxers come threw the doors but the one which stood out from the rest was David Burke who was the first boxer to represent the club at Olympic level when he competed in the 1996 Atlanta games in the featherweight division. He also went on to win a number of gold medals for his country in multi nations tournaments all over the world.

	After 9 years in the basement of the metal building in 1992 the Salisbury moved once more to its final home on Salisbury Street, the Strada Hall where the club enjoyed steady growth, coupled with successes at national and international level.

	In 1999 young amateur hopeful Stephen Burke won the clubs second ABA title against Lee Meiger in Barnsley and also a gold medal in the Multi Nations tournament after beating Eugene McEneaney of Ireland 6:5.

	The next few years proved to be very successful for the Merseyside club as in 2002 the Salisbury had two ABA champions, 54kg Derry Matthews who beat Fred Holmes and 57kg David Mulholland who beat Isaac Ward.

	The club didn't have to wait long for another ABA double as in 2003 60kg Stephen Burke got his third ABA title for the club with his victory over Femi Fehintola in Londons York Hall along side Super heavyweight team mate David Price who became the youngest ever Super Heavy Weight ABA Champion by beat Neil "Bazooka" Suku who was formally a Salisbury boxer before joining the forces by 20 points to 15.

	2003 also seen the Salisbury's first boxer to compete in the world championships when 3 time ABA champion Stephen Burke represented his country in the world championships in Bangkok when he Defeated Jesus Zibunde of Congo 23-9 but went on to losing to Mario Kindelan who later became the world and Olympic champion.

	Salisbury's first Commonwealth medalist came in 2006 when David Price captained the boxing team and went on to win a gold medal for Great Britain in the super heavy weight division at the 2006 Melbourne games after beating Kevin Evans of wales by stoppage in the third round.

Salisbury amateur boxing club was formed in the heart of Liverpool's inner-city in 1974.
