It has been almost three weeks since Louisville's Terri Blair successfully defended her International Boxing Association women's welterweight championship at Louisville Gardens.

She says she is still waiting to be paid.

Jim Murphy, the attorney for promoter Greg Peals, said neither Blair nor her opponent, Sumya Anani, has been paid and that Peals is still trying to recoup an undisclosed amount of money from Louisville Gardens and Ticketmaster.

Louisville Gardens is owned by the city. Louisville Metro Deputy Mayor Rick Johnston said the Gardens is a rental facility and receives only a surcharge on tickets for facility usage and a set fee. Ticketmaster spokeswoman Bonnie Poindexter also disputed Peals' claim, saying "our contracted client has been paid in full under the terms of agreement with Ticketmaster."

According to a copy of the fight contract obtained by The Courier-Journal through an open-records request to the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority, Blair was supposed to receive $10,000 for her rematch against Anani.

Blair's trainer/manager, Abdul Jarvis, said Blair received a check for less than the contracted amount and that the check bounced. Anani, who lost via technical knockout to Blair on May 27 at Louisville Gardens, told a similar story. She was supposed to be paid $7,000. Anani said her check for $5,100 bounced when she tried to deposit it at her Kansas City bank.

Peals has repeatedly declined comment, referring all questions to Murphy.

Jarvis added that this experience has made him wary of fighting again in Kentucky. He said that in previous fights the purse money was secured before the bout. This was the first fight in Blair's adopted hometown of Louisville. She hails from Paintsville.
