BERKLEY – Anthony Gouvia, husband of the late Beatrice (Araujo) Gouvia, died at Brockton Hospital on Oct. 1, 2009.&lt;br /&gt;
A resident of Berkley for many years, he was 90 years old.&lt;br /&gt;
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Cyril and Christina (Mendes) Gouvia.&lt;br /&gt;
Educated in Berkley and Taunton schools, he later worked for the former Geilech Tannery for over 20 years, before retiring many years ago.&lt;br /&gt;
An Army Veteran of WWII, Mr. Gouvia served with the 6th Division under General Patton, and saw action in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and the Ardennes.&lt;br /&gt;
He enjoyed boxing, and fought in and around the Taunton area before, and after the war, and while in the Army.&lt;br /&gt;
He leaves two sons, Robert A. Gouvia and his wife Brenda of E. Taunton, and David A. Gouvia and his wife Joyce E. of Dighton; a brother, Joseph Gouveia and his wife Nancy of Berkley; a sister, Maria Fontes of Berkley; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.&lt;br /&gt;
He was also the brother of the late Alfred Gouveia, Manuel Gouvia, and Cora Danise.&lt;br /&gt;
Committal Services with Military Honors will be held at the MA National VA Cemetery, Bourne on Tuesday, Oct. 6th at 3 p.m.&lt;br /&gt;
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.&lt;br /&gt;
Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.&lt;br /&gt;
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472.&lt;br /&gt;
Arrangements are by the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
