Chiaverini, of Kansas City, had a large hometown rooting section backing him but managed to win only the 2nd round in the bout. His obvious strategy in the first few rounds was to cut off the ring and keep Benitez on the ropes. But the former champion managed to break free from the tactic in the 5th round, then scored heavily on Chiaverini in the 6th. He met Chiaverini with a looping right hand at the start of the round, followed up with three quick rights to the head, a left, then a punishing left-right combo that left Chiaverini reeling." -Associated Press<br />
