Los Angeles Express: "The semi-final a lob-sided (sic) affair in favor of Billy Petrolle, was called a draw by Referee Frank Holborrow. But in truth Jimmy Hackley was licked to a frazzle and was no more entitled to that consideration than the writer, who was merely a ringside spectator." The Los Angeles Times also felt that Petrolle was robbed.
