Danny Green 184 lbs beat Paul Briggs 192 lbs by KO at 0:29 in round 1 of 12

Briggs goes down for the count after a jab to the head. The time of the knockout was twenty-nine seconds. This was the first fight in three and a half years for Briggs.

The fight was moved from Sydney to Perth because Combat Sports Authority of New South Wales declined to renew Briggs' registration on medical grounds.

Occurrences and outcome surround this fight. Betting agencies had requested a full police investigation.

The 'knockout' punch appeared to be a left jab that missed over Briggs head, with the left hand then grazing the front of Briggs right glove before Briggs 'went down' for the ten count.

Briggs was reportedly set to earn about $250,000 for the fight. According to Briggs' trainer Billy Hussein, " Paul doesn't know what happened in there. He can't remember."

The prefight contractual agreement called for a cruiserweight top weight of 84 kilograms for both individuals, and stipulated no fight could take place if either combatant violated the terms.

On Tuesday, July 20, 2010, Green weighed in at 83.7 kilograms. Briggs arrived at the weigh-in ten minutes late, and tipped the scales at 87.2 kilograms, three kilos over the contractual agreement.

Post Fight Statement of Danny Green

At the post fight news conference, Green said his attitude had changed after reviewing the tape of the bout. He saw the replay in slow motion and was convinced Briggs was legitimately hurt. "I caught Briggs on the soft part on the skull on top of the head," said Green, adding though it looked like the punch only glanced Briggs, Green was convinced the punch caused damage. "To the naked eye it appears it (the punch) hasn't landed, but this is proof he (Briggs) was felled by a legitimate blow to the head and actually a brain stem kind of injury has occurred. It's almost like a collision."

Post Fight Investigations

On Thursday, July 22, 2010, the IBO released the following statement: THE IBO CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION INTO PAUL BRIGGS FIRST ROUND KNOCKOUT LOSS

Serious questions have been raised after a shocking ending in which Paul Briggs failed to beat the count after an apparent grazing punch from Danny Green sent him to the canvas in the first round of their IBO Championship bout. The President of the IBO, Ed Levine has demanded a complete and thorough investigation of this fight by all authorities in Australia to get those answers. "Boxing can not stand another black eye", said Levine. "We need and expect answers to some very serious allegations concerning the questionable ending of this fight."

On July 22, 2010, the Western Australian Professional Combat Sports Commission announced an inquiry into Wednesday's fight. Two betting agencies, which experienced a rush of bets for Green to win by first-round knockout, welcomed the inquiry.
