"Carmen Basilio of Canastota, N.Y., fighting at a torrid pace through 12 hectic rounds tonight, won an unanimous decision over the veteran Billy Graham of N.Y. before a capacity 9,000 audience at the War Memorial Auditorium. The victory was the seventh straight for Basilio and squared accounts with Graham. Graham lost because he let Basilio take the lead away from him at the start. The young Italian kept forcing the fighting, and while Billy drew blood from his foe's nose in the 4th, 6th and 7th, his attack was spasmodic." -Associated Press
- This bout was for the inaugural N.Y. State welterweight championship.
