"Unbeaten Danny Lopez stretched his string of consecutive victories to 13 Thursday night when he knocked out Benny Rodriguez of Mexico in the 1st round of their scheduled 10 round featherweight main event at the Olympic Auditorium. Lopez dropped the previously undefeated Rodriguez three times in the round with Rodriguez staying down for the full count the third time. Lopez knocked his opponent down midway through the round with a left hook. Rodriguez was able to get up and was knocked down for an eight-count with a left-right combination. The third knockdown was with a right to the chin and Rodriguez was counted out." -United Press International
