"Susumu Hanagata of Japan scored a 7th round TKO over Fernando (Lumacad) Cabanela of the Phillipines in a scheduled 10 round elimination match to choose a challenger to WBC flyweight champion Chartchai Chionoi of Thailand. Cabanela was leading on all three official scorecards until the 6th round, but a cut he suffered above the left eye in the 7th began bleeding profusely and gave the victory to the 24 year old Japanese.
