"Power-punching Victor Galindez of Argentina retained his WBA light heavyweight title Saturday night, pounding out a split 15 round decision over unrelenting Pierre Fourie of South Africa. There were no knockdowns in the grueling bout before a crowd of about 35,000 fans in cold, blustery conditions. Although the ring announcer said that the decision was split it appeared Galindez won more decisively than when he outpointed Fourie in Johannesburg on April 4th. Fourie made a desperate attempt in the closing rounds to wrest the crown from Galindez. But his rally fell short. The Argentine took charge in the 5th round when he landed a right uppercut and followed with a series of punches which hurt Fourie and had him holding on. Thereafter, except for a rally in the 14th round, Fourie was on the defensive and in many rounds did little punching and much clutching. Galindez' best rounds were the 10th and 11th, when he had Fourie in trouble. But the challenger never went down." -Associated Press
