Dawson dished out a beating to Fernandez. Fernandez was bleeding badly from a gash under his right eye when Dawson finished him. In the 8th, Dawson shook Fernandez with a left hook to the head, and then staggered him with a similar blow, which eventually sent down Fernandez a few seconds later. Fernandez was up at seven and took the mandatory eight count, and looked dazed upon rising. Fernandez was defenseless and Dawson rained several wild blows on Fernandez, before Fernandez's corner threw in the towel.
