"Randy Turpin, Britain's former world middleweight champion, slashed a game but bloody Charles Humez of France with a meat-chopping attack Tuesday night to win back a piece of the world title on a 15 round decision. Humez was game and still scrappy but well battered. if he had been less durable, he never would have lasted past the 6th. For the first half of the fight, Turpin was as devastating as he was when he upset Ray Robinson to win the world title. After that, good natured Randy seemed to ease off a bit. It was there that Humez caught his breath and managed to win three rounds by narrow margins. Turpin repeatedly used brilliant, fast left jabs to decoy the Frenchman out of position. When he had Humez ready, Turpin sent home stinging right hand punches. Those right hands had Humez' nose and eye running blood before the evening hardly started. The EBU and US commissions refused to recognise any champ until Turpin met the winner of the upcoming American middleweight title fight between Bobo Olson and Paddy Young.
