"Jimmy Robertson fought the fight of his life Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium after appearing to be a little tense in the 1st round. From the 2nd through the 5th he was a sharpshooting marvel. He continually beat Sugar Ramos to the punch and landed sharply with both hands. Ramos, cunning and tough, began to rally in the 6th and landed repeatedly with right hands that often shook up Robertson. While it was the opinion of almost all ringsiders that Robertson, smashing his foe into virtual helplessness in the final round, had scored a masterful victory, Robertson gained the nod from only one official. A crowd of 6,471 of the most vociferous and beligerant of whom were rooting for the Cuban refugee, may have swayed the final verdict." -The L.A. Times
- Unofficial L.A. Times scorecard - 7-4 Robertson
- From the 4th round on the ring was continually pelted with debris from the unruly crowd.
