Bygraves down in the 10th round.
"George Chuvalo, the Canadian heavyweight, opened his comeback campaign Tuesday night with a 10 round decision over Jamaica-born Joe Bygraves. Chuvalo lost a decision to Ernie Terrell in a bout for the WBA heavyweight title two months ago and hopes to regain his high ranking. He was deadly with his short left hook, but Bygraves, a former British Empire heavyweight king, managed to stay away from him and score with long-range left jabs. There were no knockdowns the first nine rounds, but in the 10th the Canadian nailed Bygraves with a left hook which sent him sprawling as the final bell sounded. Chuvalo was cut on the forehead in the second round and blood streamed from the slice for the remainder of the fight." -United Press International
- Referee Harry Gibbs warned both Chuvalo and Bygraves for butting.
