Gregorio Benitez Jr. is the brother of Wilfred Benitez and Frankie Benitez. He was trained by his father, Gregorio Benitez.
Gregorio Sr. said he forced young Gregorio to quit the ring because he got married. "Gregorio was the best boxer," Gregorio Sr. told Sports Illustrated. "But he fell in love. I told him, 'You get married, you no fight.' "
Gregorio Jr., like his brother Wilfred, suffered brain damage as a result of his boxing career.
