During much of the first half of the Twentieth Century, Harry B. Smith covered sports for the San Francisco Chronicle as both a sportswriter and a Sports Editor. Since San Francisco was a boxing center at the time, Smith covered many boxing shows, both large and small. He worked for the Portland Oregonian before moving on to the San Francisco Chronicle, circa 1905. He would remain at the Chronicle until his death in 1951.
