Jerry Flanagan was the younger brother of Hall of Famers Glen Flanagan and Del Flanagan. Jerry was a crafty fighter and hard to hit. Local St. Paul boxing reporter Dick Cullum said Jerry had a jab "equal to his brothers." Flanagan was also an accomplished amateur fighter in St. Paul, with a 21-1 record before turning pro in 1958.
