In 1950 John Boutilier a student at Boston University won the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions vs. Floyd Roberson at light heavyweight and the Intercity Golden Gloves' Championship vs. Jessie Brown at light heavyweight.
In 1951 he won the National AAU at light heavyweight
Boutilier graduated from Boston University in 1953 with both a bachelor's and a master's degree in education.
Son of Nat Boutelier who won the the 1911 National AAU at middleweight.
