Young Joseph (sometimes reported as 'Josephs') fought professionally from 1903 to 1914, and in 149 bouts compiled a record of 98-23-23. He was of Hebrew heritage.

Joseph fought for the British Lightweight Title in 1905 drawing with Joe Fletcher. Also in 1905 Joseph won a gold belt in a 9stone 2llb. competition held under the auspices of The National Sporting Club. Joseph was the British Welterweight Champion from 1908-1911 and he fought Georges Carpentier for European Title in 1911-Joseph was stopped in the 10th rd. He also claimed the World Welterweight Title at 142 llbs after defeating Young Otto in 1909 (from Barry Hugman's History of Championship Boxing), lost claim to the welterweight crown after being stopped in seven rounds by Harry Lewis in 1910.
