Why has there been this weird explosion of Cooney threads? Nothing against the guy, but it's odd to say the least out of nowhere like this.
Oh and Frazier, though I'm not sure I needed to point it out.

Drunkpippilongstocking loves him and thought she could annoy me by bringing up all the old ones, now others are making fun of her. It will pass.Bobbyptsd wrote:Why has there been this weird explosion of Cooney threads? Nothing against the guy, but it's odd to say the least out of nowhere like this.

I could see Cooney scraping by on a majority decision on this one.
Re: Gerry Cooney vs. Joe Frazier
Frazier by KO in 4 one sided rounds.

This is a real pick 'em fight. Of course Joe did pass away a few years back otherwise I'd have to go with Frazier.

Who is Drunkpippilongstocking? And why do you think that everything is about you?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Drunkpippilongstocking loves him and thought she could annoy me by bringing up all the old ones, now others are making fun of her. Re: Gerry Cooney vs. Joe Frazier
Frazier by a grinding stoppage around the 9th round, after taking a fair share of hard left hooks and uppercuts, and even getting decked a time or two. Joe's handspeed, upperbody movement, working the body and relentlessness is what ultimately gets him the "W", in a crowd pleasing fight.
Re: Gerry Cooney vs. Joe Frazier
I could see Cooney scraping himself (but not wanting to) off the canvas after the count of 10, wondering what happened, sometime in the 9th round.

That would be a shame if they left him laying there and kept running rounds for a good 16-28 minutes.BoxBuzz wrote:I could see Cooney scraping himself (but not wanting to) off the canvas after the count of 10, wondering what happened, sometime in the 9th round.

Don't mind him, he thinks Gerry is a super hero. Cooney couldn't floor Frazier with a bat.yancey wrote:It ain't going 9 rounds, pal.drunkenpiper36 wrote:Frazier by a grinding stoppage around the 9th round, after taking a fair share of hard left hooks and uppercuts, and even getting decked a time or two. Did Frazier ever win a fight in which he had been knocked down?

Bonavena...he was down twice.Cutman Scabbers wrote:drunkenpiper36 wrote:Frazier by a grinding stoppage around the 9th round, after taking a fair share of hard left hooks and uppercuts, and even getting decked a time or two. Far as I know Bonavena is the only guy that ever put Joe down other than Foreman.

Re: Gerry Cooney vs. Joe Frazier
yeah as far as I know, Bonavena is the only non-conqueror of Joe who decked him in a fight. In all seriousness Frazier needs to be a heavy favorite, and yes I believe he will win. But no way does Cooney get creamed as badly or as early as some of these guys are claiming that he would. Joe's bobbing, weaving, and swarming was the exact kind of approach that made him susceptible to hooks and uppercuts and make no mistake, he's gonna get tagged by his fair share of them against Cooney. And some of Frazier's own left hooks are going to lose power on the way up, as Cooney had so much more height. I think Joe takes some hard shots in this one before wearing down the gentleman, and I wouldn't be surprised if Cooney makes #2 on the list of guys who Smoke had to rise off the canvas to beat.gilgamesh wrote:Bonavena...he was down twice.Cutman Scabbers wrote:drunkenpiper36 wrote:Frazier by a grinding stoppage around the 9th round, after taking a fair share of hard left hooks and uppercuts, and even getting decked a time or two. And Cooney had a great left uppercut to go with that hook. Did Frazier ever beat anyone that big?

Re: Gerry Cooney vs. Joe Frazier
Buster Mathis was as big as Cooney. A little bigger I think (not quite as tall, but heavier)Cutman Scabbers wrote:
