Gorman was knocked down in the 4th and 5th rounds. As the decision was being announced, Gorman ran towards the referee shouting "draw" with his arm up. The referee grabbed his arm, and mistakingly ruled the bout a draw; instead of a win for DePinto. According to a January 17, 1929 article in the Portland Oregonian the bout was attended by 3, 000 people and was the largest attended boxing match ever in Cowlitz County.
